Hello and welcome to end of August. School is back in season and the temperature has started to cool off. It has really been great weather to finish up all of those outdoor projects that I was putting off due to the heat of Summer. On the list later today is cleaning up the shelves in the garage.
This week our featured website is the site for McHale Landscape Design Inc. They are a landscape / hardscape design company based in Maryland. They focus on four primary areas landscaping, masonry, carpentry and maintenance, the last being important to make sure their plans are continually implemented properly. My favorite part of their website is their photo gallery which highlights about 100 projects which they have completed. Overall the site could use some design and layout work, but I find their photo gallery to be very useful when thinking of design ideas. (Know of a website we should feature on this blog? Now on to this week’s special: From now until the end of August we are featuring 10% off All Fired Up ceramic switch plates and house numbers. The primary goal of Elegant Home Services is to renew your home and to make it the best it can be. From a simple replacement of gutters to a complete rebuild of an existing home they take it all on. Hello and welcome to the the second week of August and is it ever hot. I really feel like I should be doing more outdoor projects, but I really don’t feel like being outside too long. Oh well, there are plenty of projects to do indoors. Actually, I really need to work on my office where I write this blog. I think it’s the only room in the house that we never took the time to decorate and I spend more time in here than any other room. It’s functional, but doesn’t really feel good. Time for a complete redo in the next few weeks.
This week our featured website is the site for Barbara Hawthorne Interiors. Barbara is an interior designer who specializes in residential and commercial spaces in the Mid-Atlantic region. The website shows off an amazing portfolio with great photographs of past projects. All portfolio areas are broken up into traditional, transitional and modern design styles which each give you a sense of what is possible. We are now into the final week of June and I really staring to wonder where half the year went. Our home project is finally done and it looks as good as we had hoped. With our new door we decided to order a knob set from Brass Accents and we so impressed we will start carrying their full line of solid brass entry sets at Habitatter.com.

Marina Bay Singapore by Sands is an amazing building with what they are calling a sky park featuring a negative edge infinity pool on the 55th story. Well, we are now into the third week of June and Summer is in full swing. Things are almost with my home project, the concrete is done, new deck built, columns, installed, new door, new shutters and the upstairs railing is almost finished. Just one more day of work and it will be fully transformed.

Overall I’m very happy with the new look, I think it’s a lot cleaner and more modern. We were almost too late to notice that one of the pillars would have been right in front of our picture window. It hadn’t mattered before since the pillars were wrought iron and more like screens. |

Grace is an antiques / interior design store in Missouri which sells architectural salvage, antiques and home decor, they also mention coffee and dessert in their logo which makes it even better. The whole store and overall theme is relaxed beauty. Housed in a former church built in 1854 “Grace” exudes style and well grace. Hello and welcome to the beginning of June. You may have noticed the absence of this blog over the past two weeks, but I am back again with another dose of decorative home hardware and other related topics. One major project that is happening personally is I am having the front of my house rebuilt. It had a faux balcony with wood decks and wrought iron railings and while it looked interesting it was not maintained and did not look right for our neighborhood. So, the whole thing was ripped down and is being replaced by better decking, fluted columns on the bottom and railings on the top section. We are also replacing the concrete patio, the front door and shutters. I’ll post some pictures next week of the progress.

Hello and welcome to our last post for April, many of the flowers are blooming but it also raining here all weekend. So, I can’t really work outside at all this weekend, however I can get a start on some of the Spring cleaning projects inside that never really got started. Maybe just a quick pick up of every room in the house and then concentrate on just the worst room for cleaning.
This week we are focusing on a niche site called Stair Porn. Don’t let the name fool you as the site explains “stair porn™ is a weblog showcasing cool stairs from around the world. If you came here looking for sex, you’re plumb outta luck, bub.” I stumbled across this site earlier in the week and have found some amazing stairs on here. You might find it a bit odd at first, but really stairs are such a focal point in any home or building it really makes sense to make them interesting as well as functional. I was taken away by the design variety and ingenuity found in these pictures. My only criticisms are that the pictures aren’t big enough and the information is scant.

Fossils, from the future! An artist-made texture plate is used to create raised patterns on polymer clay, which is applied to standard plastic switch plates. After curing, the polymer clay is antiqued with permanent brown acrylic paint to highlight the detail in the texture. These will fit any standard construction; mounting screws are included and painted to match.

Hello and welcome to our latest post for April, many of the flowers are blooming as well as allergies. I’ve finally started to catch up on getting my yard in order and start on some of those projects I’ve been waiting all Winter to do. the big question is will I actually have enough time to do them all?

Licensed artwork featuring Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting Starry Night. The work was created in 1889 while he was in the asylum at Saint-Remy, in fulfillment of a previously expressed wish to paint a night sky from memory. He wrote that he wanted it to be “a kind of painting giving greater consolation.”
This decoupage switch plate includes nearly the entire image from the painting on the double and triple width switchplates, and the central half on the single width. It is mounted on a standard switchplate, then sealed to prevent scratching or water damage and packaged in a transparent gift bag. Made in Southern California.
