Hello and welcome to beginning of September. The weather has turned cooler suddenly and thoughts have moved to the Fall. I was able to finish cleaning off my garage shelves this week and it has made an amazing difference. I also had time to redo things in my media room. The old carpet is gone replaced by some flooring paint and area rugs. It is now a much better look and feel for the room, especially since my son has basically taken over the space.

Hello and welcome to the the second week of August and is it ever hot. I really feel like I should be doing more outdoor projects, but I really don’t feel like being outside too long. Oh well, there are plenty of projects to do indoors. Actually, I really need to work on my office where I write this blog. I think it’s the only room in the house that we never took the time to decorate and I spend more time in here than any other room. It’s functional, but doesn’t really feel good. Time for a complete redo in the next few weeks.

The website shows off an amazing portfolio with great photographs of past projects. All portfolio areas are broken up into traditional, transitional and modern design styles which each give you a sense of what is possible. Overall I love the clean look of the site and the photos give me so many ideas. (Know of a website we should feature on this blog? Send the URL along with your name to: Suggestions @ Habitatter.com)

Well, we are now into the third week of June and Summer is in full swing. Things are almost with my home project, the concrete is done, new deck built, columns, installed, new door, new shutters and the upstairs railing is almost finished. Just one more day of work and it will be fully transformed.
Front Patio From Driveway - Before
Front Patio From Driveway - Day 10
Overall I’m very happy with the new look, I think it’s a lot cleaner and more modern. We were almost too late to notice that one of the pillars would have been right in front of our picture window. It hadn’t mattered before since the pillars were wrought iron and more like screens. |
This week our featured website is Grace – A Place of Restoration. Grace is an antiques / interior design store in Missouri which sells architectural salvage, antiques and home decor, they also mention coffee and dessert in their logo which makes it even better. The whole store and overall theme is relaxed beauty. Housed in a former church built in 1854 “Grace” exudes style and well grace. Just seeing this site makes me want to take a trip to Rocheport, MO so I can visit the store in person. I think I see a road trip in my future. Know of a website we should feature on this blog? Send the URL along with your name to: Suggestions @ Habitatter.com)
Now on to this week’s specials: This month we are featuring 15% off all Waterwood solid brass hardware.
These wonderful pieces are hand made in Texas and are of the highest quality. Choose from switch plates, cabinet knobs, drawer pulls, appliance pulls, doorbells and door bell chime boxes (made of wood). Their work together has been recognized by such publications as House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Southern Living and Old House Journal who have all recommended the Waterwood line to their readers. Now you can add them to your home at substantial savings this June only.
We are also currently adding a new exciting artist to our line up, Quality Time of
New Orleans with hand crafted clocks and signs with a taste of New Orleans. Their inspiration was everywhere — in the historic city itself and in the South’s lingering memories tucked away in rural gas stations, old corner grocery stores, roadside diners and glamorous nightspots. Soon their fascination spread to explore Europe’s long tradition of beautiful travel and product posters.
Our top ten list this week is full of earth tones this week and a few wrought iron letters and numebrs. See what else made the top ten this week by looking below.

Hello again, it’s hard to believe that we are now in the middle of June. Things are progressing with my home project, the concrete was poured and is now curing. There is still much work to be done, but all of the old patio and deck are gone so at least everything now is new.

Hello and welcome to the beginning of June. You may have noticed the absence of this blog over the past two weeks, but I am back again with another dose of decorative home hardware and other related topics. One major project that is happening personally is I am having the front of my house rebuilt. It had a faux balcony with wood decks and wrought iron railings and while it looked interesting it was not maintained and did not look right for our neighborhood. So, the whole thing was ripped down and is being replaced by better decking, fluted columns on the bottom and railings on the top section. We are also replacing the concrete patio, the front door and shutters. I’ll post some pictures next week of the progress.
Now on to this week’s specials: This month we are featuring 15% off all Waterwood solid brass hardware. These wonderful pieces are hand made in Texas and are of the highest quality. Our top ten list this week has quite a bit of variety this week and also shows a resurgence of some of the old standards such as plain wrought iron switch plates, mirrored glass switch plates and Italian Scroll solid brass switch plates. See what else made the top ten this week by looking below.

Hello and welcome to the the second week of May. It’s hard to believe that May is already half over, I swear we just had frost last week. Wait we did have frost last week, that’s Ohio for you. This weekend there are been two events here in Dayton, which make the city come alive with a vibrant night life. The big one is called Urban Nights and it’s a time when businesses throughout downtown stay open late (10 PM) and feature art, sculpture, film and music from locals. The streets are packed and you get to experience a plethora of amazing art, it’s a shame it isn’t like this every weekend. The other event is called A World A’Fair where groups representing about 50 countries set up in our convention center and showcase food, culture and dance from their native country.
Now on to this week’s specials: This month we are still featuring 35% off all Mercury Mosaics ceramic switch plates. These have been discontinued and have been going fast, so hurry to take advantage of a great deal on this unique hand crafted ceramic switch plates. We recently added a new artist, Metallum Creations, out of Tucson Arizona to our line up of decorative home hardware artists. They make amazing decorative hardware out of steel such as wall light sconces, key racks, single coat hooks, door bells and switch plates in 15 amazing airbrushed colors. |
This week’s feature website is PrairieMod.com. If you enjoy architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright then this is site you must bookmark if you already haven’t. If you like great design then this is also a great place to look, with ideas both old and new meant to inspire. Basically this site espouses 10 principles based on the Prairie School and Modernism movements along with lessons from today: Consider the Cost, Form is Function, Less Becomes More, Useful and Beautiful, Informal Meets Elegant, Integrate and Unify, Bring the Outside in, Think Natural, Go Green and Uniquely You. I’ve been reading through this site for quite some time and still keep finding myself amazed. |
Our top ten list this week has a lot of focus on Full Circle Studio Designs with her unique decoupage collages with a French flair. This is also the first time in quite a while that diamond plate aluminum switch plates have made it into the top ten.
