Hello and welcome to our last post for April, many of the flowers are blooming but it also raining here all weekend. So, I can’t really work outside at all this weekend, however I can get a start on some of the Spring cleaning projects inside that never really got started. Maybe just a quick pick up of every room in the house and then concentrate on just the worst room for cleaning.
This week we are focusing on a niche site called Stair Porn. Don’t let the name fool you as the site explains “stair porn™ is a weblog showcasing cool stairs from around the world. If you came here looking for sex, you’re plumb outta luck, bub.” I stumbled across this site earlier in the week and have found some amazing stairs on here. You might find it a bit odd at first, but really stairs are such a focal point in any home or building it really makes sense to make them interesting as well as functional. I was taken away by the design variety and ingenuity found in these pictures. My only criticisms are that the pictures aren’t big enough and the information is scant.

Hello and welcome to the first week of March. With today’s weather it definitely feels like Spring is on it’s way. I’m starting to categorize all of the projects around our house and the new warehouse space.
One thing we’re trying this year is to look at one room each week and see what little changes and minor fixes we can make to it without spending too much money. We started with the master bathroom and have been taking care of all those nagging little problems that just keep getting put off. We’ve also started changing small bits of decor, like the heat vent, that just didn’t match the rest of the room. (We had a white heat vent while all of the other hardware in the room is wrought iron.) The little bits of change have cost us under $100, but the difference has been amazing. We’re going to try and carry this on through the whole house taking on one room over the course of one to two weeks. Next week I’ll get some before and after shots.
This week we are featuring one of my favorite online furniture stores, Art Van Furniture from Michigan. They are a chain, but only have stores in one state so I just look at them online. One of the most useful features of their site is their Room Planner. You can use this tool to draw a custom sized room and then use their icons to see how you’d like to lay things out. You can even save and print your rooms. It’s a great idea planner and is helpful even if you aren’t in the market for new furniture.

Well, 2010 is now in full swing and I’m looking at the many projects I want to get done around the house. Always a great time to go out looking for inspiration, and I found a great blog this week 
relating to design and decor called Vamp Decor. It features all manner of furniture and architectural design elements. The suite isn’t very old, but I love the ideas they have posted and see it as a great place to get some good ideas.
Now onto our top ten list of the week. This week our list of top ten decorative hardware items is again topped by mirrored glass switch plates, however many new products have made their first appearance ever including some of the polymer clay switch plates by Good Night Irene!

We are now into December and it definitely feels like Winter, I haven’t seen any snow yet, but it is on the horizon. All around people are hanging up holiday lights and getting into the spirit of the season. Next weekend will be Halloween and Day of the Dead, it’s hard to believe they’re here already. I’m looking forward to a few costume parties and seeing all the creative outfits on all the children in the area.
