Hello again, it’s hard to believe that we are now in the middle of June. Things are progressing with my home project, the concrete was poured and is now curing. There is still much work to be done, but all of the old patio and deck are gone so at least everything now is new.
 Front Patio From Driveway - Before  Front Patio From Driveway - Day 5 I’m pretty impressed with how well they have avoided killing the plants in our garden. A few have not made it, but overall our garden will survive. Next week they move onto building back the deck, adding railing, pillars, a new front door and replacing the shutters. |
This week our featured website is called Beautiful Life and it features all things that make our physical world more beautiful. The four primary sections are Web design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and Interior Design with gorgeous photos and nice write ups of each feature. The item featured in our screen shot is a futuristic luxury villa located on the island of Cyprus. Overall this site itself is a thing of beauty and I never stop finding amazing design within. Hello and welcome to the the second week of May. It’s hard to believe that May is already half over, I swear we just had frost last week. Wait we did have frost last week, that’s Ohio for you. This weekend there are been two events here in Dayton, which make the city come alive with a vibrant night life. The big one is called Urban Nights and it’s a time when businesses throughout downtown stay open late (10 PM) and feature art, sculpture, film and music from locals. The streets are packed and you get to experience a plethora of amazing art, it’s a shame it isn’t like this every weekend. The other event is called A World A’Fair where groups representing about 50 countries set up in our convention center and showcase food, culture and dance from their native country.
Now on to this week’s specials: This month we are still featuring 35% off all Mercury Mosaics ceramic switch plates. Basically this site espouses 10 principles based on the Prairie School and Modernism movements along with lessons from today: Consider the Cost, Form is Function, Less Becomes More, Useful and Beautiful, Informal Meets Elegant, Integrate and Unify, Bring the Outside in, Think Natural, Go Green and Uniquely You. I’ve been reading through this site for quite some time and still keep finding myself amazed. |

For the record Dayton has 38 buildings listed with diagrams of 18 of them. |

Hello and welcome to our last post for April, many of the flowers are blooming but it also raining here all weekend. So, I can’t really work outside at all this weekend, however I can get a start on some of the Spring cleaning projects inside that never really got started. Maybe just a quick pick up of every room in the house and then concentrate on just the worst room for cleaning.
This week we are focusing on a niche site called Stair Porn. Don’t let the name fool you as the site explains “stair porn™ is a weblog showcasing cool stairs from around the world. If you came here looking for sex, you’re plumb outta luck, bub.” I stumbled across this site earlier in the week and have found some amazing stairs on here. You might find it a bit odd at first, but really stairs are such a focal point in any home or building it really makes sense to make them interesting as well as functional. I was taken away by the design variety and ingenuity found in these pictures. My only criticisms are that the pictures aren’t big enough and the information is scant.

I hope everybody is enjoying the snow this week, because there seems to be no way of escaping it. From what I heard all 50 states 
had some snow on the ground this week. This week we travel to Shepperton, Middlesex England to look at a great home interior decorating / remodeling website I came across called Concept Interior.  It is the first week of February and winter has finally hit us with our first decent snowfall. I always like the look of freshly fallen snow. It gives everything such a nice, new clean look.

The alder wood used for these switchplates is enhanced using a process called “spalting” to bring out the beauty of the hardwood — allowing the wood to reveal both its spalting pattern and a cross-section of the tree’s growth rings.
The resulting products exhibit a rich mixture of red and brown earth tones, blended with streaks of a lighter honey color — giving each unique piece a warm and weathered character.
