Hello and welcome to the the second week of August and is it ever hot. I really feel like I should be doing more outdoor projects, but I really don’t feel like being outside too long. Oh well, there are plenty of projects to do indoors. Actually, I really need to work on my office where I write this blog. I think it’s the only room in the house that we never took the time to decorate and I spend more time in here than any other room. It’s functional, but doesn’t really feel good. Time for a complete redo in the next few weeks.
This week our featured website is the site for Barbara Hawthorne Interiors. Barbara is an interior designer who specializes in residential and commercial spaces in the Mid-Atlantic region. The website shows off an amazing portfolio with great photographs of past projects. All portfolio areas are broken up into traditional, transitional and modern design styles which each give you a sense of what is possible. We are now into the final week of July and I have not updated this blog since the end of June. Sorry for the absence but I was in Turkey for a few weeks and then out of town again so the blog just didn’t happen.
I saw a lot of amazing things on my trip but one of the most inspiring was the Library at Ephesus from 74 AD. Seeing such a unique building that was almost two thousand years old was beyond belief. Of course the whole city of Ephesus just blew me away with how much was still preserved and the intricate details everywhere.
This week our featured website is the Turkish architecture firm Emre Arolat Architects. The site itself is very well 
designed with a lot of white space and minimal clutter. This is really appreciated when you get to their section on works and the whole page centers on the clear, crisp photos of their projects. We are now into the final week of June and I really staring to wonder where half the year went. Our home project is finally done and it looks as good as we had hoped. With our new door we decided to order a knob set from Brass Accents and we so impressed we will start carrying their full line of solid brass entry sets at Habitatter.com.

Hello and welcome to the beginning of June. You may have noticed the absence of this blog over the past two weeks, but I am back again with another dose of decorative home hardware and other related topics. One major project that is happening personally is I am having the front of my house rebuilt. It had a faux balcony with wood decks and wrought iron railings and while it looked interesting it was not maintained and did not look right for our neighborhood. So, the whole thing was ripped down and is being replaced by better decking, fluted columns on the bottom and railings on the top section. We are also replacing the concrete patio, the front door and shutters. I’ll post some pictures next week of the progress.

Hello and welcome to the the second week of May. It’s hard to believe that May is already half over, I swear we just had frost last week. Wait we did have frost last week, that’s Ohio for you. This weekend there are been two events here in Dayton, which make the city come alive with a vibrant night life. The big one is called Urban Nights and it’s a time when businesses throughout downtown stay open late (10 PM) and feature art, sculpture, film and music from locals. The streets are packed and you get to experience a plethora of amazing art, it’s a shame it isn’t like this every weekend. The other event is called A World A’Fair where groups representing about 50 countries set up in our convention center and showcase food, culture and dance from their native country.

I’ve been reading through this site for quite some time and still keep finding myself amazed. |

Hello and welcome to the second week of March. We have been getting rain all week and it has finally dissolved all of the remaining snow. I am really looking forward to cleaning up our yard and getting things ready for the Spring blooms. We put in some new gardens a few years ago and have been updating them ever since. I always love Spring and the new opportunities it presents.
Since I’m thinking about outdoors this is a great time to feature a local landscaping business, Topos Studio in Washington Township, Ohio. They take on projects through our local area ranging from civic, commercial, recreation and personal gardens. They have a very straightforward site and quite a few sketches of their designs available so you can see their style. I do wish they had more photos of the completed projects, but you can’t get everything. I really do like their style though and plan on going to a few of the places they have designed to check them out in person.

Hi and welcome to the end of February. The past few weeks have been really big for us. We just moved into our new place at the Front Street Arts Complex and have been getting everything arranged. We have over twice as much space now and are surrounded by artists of all types: potters, sculpters, wood workers, painters, photographers, printers, etc. We’re really looking forward to being a part of this community.
This week we feature a great blog Apartment Therapy with the apt subtitle – “Saving the World, One Room at a Time”. My favorite feature is the home tours section where homeowners send in pictures and a walk through of their home and then receive comments and suggestions from other readers. A fun community and a great place to pick up ideas regardless of your style. Beware you can easly blow through a few hours on this site before you realize it.

Hello and welcome to the last posting of January. Winter and all of the cold is now upon us and it’s a great time to stay inside. This week I have a site to share from a home remodeler in Minneapolis who specializes in basements

Well, 2010 is now in full swing and I’m looking at the many projects I want to get done around the house. Always a great time to go out looking for inspiration, and I found a great blog this week 
relating to design and decor called Vamp Decor. It features all manner of furniture and architectural design elements. The suite isn’t very old, but I love the ideas they have posted and see it as a great place to get some good ideas.

Individually made by hand in a one-woman studio in Asheville, North Carolina.
Bring a little bit of nature into your home! Real leaves are used to texture polymer clay, which is then applied to a standard plastic switch plate. After curing, the polymer clay is antiqued with permanent brown acrylic paint to highlight the detail in the texture. These will fit any standard construction; mounting screws are included and painted to match.
