Hello and welcome to the the third week of August. School is about ready to start and all of the kids are trying to pack in last minute fun for the Summer. Right now is also a great time to finish off those Summer home projects.
This week our featured website is the site for Elegant Home Services.They are a remodeling / design company based in Virginia. The primary goal of Elegant Home Services is to renew your home and to make it the best it can be. From a simple replacement of gutters to a complete rebuild of an existing home they take it all on. Hello and welcome to the first week of August. School will be starting back up soon and for a lot of people that means getting the home organized for the start of a new school year. It’s also a great time to redecorate your children’s rooms and home work spaces. It can something as simple as a small refresh of details like switch plates, drawer knobs and coat hooks to a total redo of everything. It’s up to you and your child.
This week our featured website is the site for the magazine House Trends – Your Destination for Inspiration. This magazine is based here in Dayton Ohio and also has issues printed for Cincinnati, Columbus, Pittsburgh & Tampa Bay. The website and print version both feature a plethora of design and remodeling tips and ideas for every area in your home. Now on to this week’s special: This week has been the start of 15%

We are now into the final week of July and I have not updated this blog since the end of June. Sorry for the absence but I was in Turkey for a few weeks and then out of town again so the blog just didn’t happen.
I saw a lot of amazing things on my trip but one of the most inspiring was the Library at Ephesus from 74 AD. Seeing such a unique building that was almost two thousand years old was beyond belief. Of course the whole city of Ephesus just blew me away with how much was still preserved and the intricate details everywhere.
This week our featured website is the Turkish architecture firm Emre Arolat Architects. The site itself is very well 
designed with a lot of white space and minimal clutter. This is really appreciated when you get to their section on works and the whole page centers on the clear, crisp photos of their projects. We are now into the final week of June and I really staring to wonder where half the year went. Our home project is finally done and it looks as good as we had hoped. Well, we are now into the third week of June and Summer is in full swing. Things are almost with my home project, the concrete is done, new deck built, columns, installed, new door, new shutters and the upstairs railing is almost finished. Just one more day of work and it will be fully transformed.

Overall I’m very happy with the new look, I think it’s a lot cleaner and more modern. We were almost too late to notice that one of the pillars would have been right in front of our picture window. It hadn’t mattered before since the pillars were wrought iron and more like screens. |

Grace is an antiques / interior design store in Missouri which sells architectural salvage, antiques and home decor, they also mention coffee and dessert in their logo which makes it even better. The whole store and overall theme is relaxed beauty. Housed in a former church built in 1854 “Grace” exudes style and well grace. Hello and welcome to the beginning of June. You may have noticed the absence of this blog over the past two weeks, but I am back again with another dose of decorative home hardware and other related topics. One major project that is happening personally is I am having the front of my house rebuilt. It had a faux balcony with wood decks and wrought iron railings and while it looked interesting it was not maintained and did not look right for our neighborhood. So, the whole thing was ripped down and is being replaced by better decking, fluted columns on the bottom and railings on the top section. We are also replacing the concrete patio, the front door and shutters. I’ll post some pictures next week of the progress.

Hello and welcome to the the second week of May. It’s hard to believe that May is already half over, I swear we just had frost last week. Wait we did have frost last week, that’s Ohio for you. This weekend there are been two events here in Dayton, which make the city come alive with a vibrant night life. The big one is called Urban Nights and it’s a time when businesses throughout downtown stay open late (10 PM) and feature art, sculpture, film and music from locals. The streets are packed and you get to experience a plethora of amazing art, it’s a shame it isn’t like this every weekend. The other event is called A World A’Fair where groups representing about 50 countries set up in our convention center and showcase food, culture and dance from their native country.
Now on to this week’s specials: This month we are still featuring 35% off all Mercury Mosaics ceramic switch plates. I’ve been reading through this site for quite some time and still keep finding myself amazed. |

Hello and welcome to our last post for April, many of the flowers are blooming but it also raining here all weekend. So, I can’t really work outside at all this weekend, however I can get a start on some of the Spring cleaning projects inside that never really got started. Maybe just a quick pick up of every room in the house and then concentrate on just the worst room for cleaning.
This week we are focusing on a niche site called Stair Porn. Don’t let the name fool you as the site explains “stair porn™ is a weblog showcasing cool stairs from around the world. If you came here looking for sex, you’re plumb outta luck, bub.” I stumbled across this site earlier in the week and have found some amazing stairs on here. You might find it a bit odd at first, but really stairs are such a focal point in any home or building it really makes sense to make them interesting as well as functional. I was taken away by the design variety and ingenuity found in these pictures. My only criticisms are that the pictures aren’t big enough and the information is scant.

 Van Gogh - Starry Night Switch Plate Van Gogh – Starry Night Switch Plate – Decoupage
Licensed artwork featuring Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting Starry Night. The work was created in 1889 while he was in the asylum at Saint-Remy, in fulfillment of a previously expressed wish to paint a night sky from memory. He wrote that he wanted it to be “a kind of painting giving greater consolation.”
This decoupage switch plate includes nearly the entire image from the painting on the double and triple width switchplates, and the central half on the single width. It is mounted on a standard switchplate, then sealed to prevent scratching or water damage and packaged in a transparent gift bag. Made in Southern California.

I did not do a post last week since I was in Chicago, but I did end up going to the wonderful Chicago Art Institute where they had a special exhibit on Matisse. Unfortunately they did not allow any photography. However, I did get some other photos in the museum along with the surrounding Millennium / Grant Park. I will post these next week in a special post all about Chicago.
